Business Cycle: 2001 - 2007
Total employment in Centre County grew 5.1% during the recent business cycle, compared to only 1.8% in the state and 4.1% nationwide. The county experienced strong gains in Education and Health Care & Social Assistance and a decline of more than 40% in Manufacturing.
Great Recession: December 2007 - September 2009
Centre County has fared well in the current recession. Total employment expanded 0.8%, while declining 4.5% statewide. Six private sectors have grown, including Construction, Accommodation & Food Services, and Health Care & Social Assistance, while Manufacturing has lost the most jobs.
