Creating a New Year’s Eve Party Playlist

Now that the holiday buzz is starting to slow down, it’s time to get ready to ring in the new year!  Whether you’re planning a chill night with close friends or a fancy party with everyone you know, you definitely want to commemorate 2011 with a killer playlist of the songs that mark favorite memories of the year. Here are four easy tips for creating the perfect party playlist for New Year’s Eve:

    1) Check out the “Top 40 Charts” as a reminder of the 2011 hit singles. I personally recommend Ryan Seacrest’s lists. These songs usually fall under the pop/dance genre, so they’re good for getting guests in party mode and ready to dance the night away into 2012.

    2) Include some throwbacks on your playlist. I’m talking anything from NSYNC to Blink-182. Look back through old CDs to jog your memory of bands that made a profound mark on your adolescent years. Their songs will take you back to earlier times and are totally appropriate to play on New Year’s Eve.

    3) Mix it up. This tip kind of combines tips #1 and #2. With that said, it’s important for your New Year’s playlist to be diverse. You definitely need some alternative rock songs to balance out the beats of the pop/rap stuff. I’d suggest trying some Mayday Parade, Fall Out Boy or any other similar band of your choice.

    4) Don’t let your personal music taste get in the way. Remember, this playlist is meant to celebrate what made 2011 musically unique (see DJ Earworm’s “United States of Pop 2011”). Don’t let it turn into something only you want to listen to all night.
